On the kitchen design trends side, we’ve been seeing a bit more of an open concept. Staying in that kitchen design aesthetic, we’re seeing a lot more open shelving now too. Along with that, some of the designs we’re seeing, and what you’d see looking through magazines, are built-in hoods. Before, the freestanding hoods had been the trend for a while. Now we’re seeing, even in contemporary designs, just a nice contemporary custom hood enclosure and putting in a hood insert. This really adds an extra element to the design of the kitchen, and then pairing that with floating shelves on either side just really opens up the space and really makes it feel more modern and more contemporary, even in a transitional or more traditional design.

Another design trend in kitchens we’re seeing that’s been around for a while now is a two-tone kitchen. We’re not going so much with a dark and a light, but maybe it’s a lighter wood paired with a lighter solid color. That’s definitely another trend that will probably stay for a little while.
