One of the trends we’re seeing in appliances and hardware is a shift more toward simplistic design. It seems like the appliances are becoming more of the background again instead of the foreground. We’re seeing a resurgence in doing more paneled appliances where we’re hiding the refrigerator, we’re hiding the dishwasher. To tag onto that, we’re doing coordinating cabinet poles or cabinet hardware, so even those are becoming more simplistic.
Typically, in traditional design, as an example, you have a very ornate handle and cabinet pull. Now we’re seeing in more traditional settings that clients are going for a more simplistic cabinet pull or knob, or just eliminating the knob altogether. The same follows through with transitional and contemporary, much more of a move to a simplified and timeless design characteristic.
Another trend we’re seeing is more homeowners wanting more of that custom hood look so that it matches and coordinates with the cabinetry. You’re just getting a hood insert rather than seeing a more decorative or ornate hood that’s made from the appliance material whether that’s stainless steel or straps. We’re seeing more of a push to integrate that into more of the cabinet design as well.
