Vibrant & Bold
Color will play a big role when it comes to design in 2023. Yes, styles like the clean white kitchen are still popular, but homeowners are thinking a little more outside the box. Vibrant designs and bold colors will play an important role in home designing in 2023 according to the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA). Homeowners want to combine multiple design elements and materials along with bold accents, splashes of color, and texture. These are some of the 2023 color trends to expect, as well as a few of the Color of the Year picks.
What Homeowners Want
Homeowners are mixing warmer natural earthy tones, less gray and white, and more medium wood tones. Proving that homes are becoming more vibrant, we’re seeing richer colors overall such as coastal blues, greens, and organic neutrals in both the kitchen and bathroom. Despite these more coastal shades, most of the various Colors of the Year are quite different.
Pantone’s Color of the Year
Pantone’s Color of the Year is Viva Magenta. This color, “vibrates with vim and vigor. It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength. Viva Magenta is brave and fearless and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.
“This year’s Color of the Year is powerful and empowering. It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement. Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same verve for life and rebellious spirit. It is a color that is audacious, full of wit, and inclusive of all.”
Sherwin-Williams’ Color of the Year
Sherwin-Williams’ Color of the Year is Redend Point. They say, “Embrace a spirit of connection with the world around us with this soulful-yet-subtle hue. Two major themes we wanted the 2023 Color of the Year to represent were warmth and empathy. For warmth, Redend Point reflects what we’ve been seeing in terms of neutrals warming up and earth tones evolving. Homeowners are opting for warmer whites, beiges, pinks and browns. Redend Point is an earthy color, and its subtle pink undertones exude a feeling of warmth and exploration, something people want to feel in their homes.”
Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year
Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year is Raspberry Blush. “A vivacious shade of coral tinged with pink, Raspberry Blush enlivens the senses with an electric optimism. Never a backdrop, Raspberry Blush is the definition of charismatic color. This unapologetic shade of red orange had us thinking bold, bolder, boldest. This sentiment flows through the rest of the palette as we immerse ourselves in hues that make a statement.”
Behr’s Color of the Year
Behr’s Color of the Year is Blank Canvas. “Blank Canvas straddles the line between past and future and offers a meditation on the present. Blank Canvas feels like a deep exhale of calm and creativity, that perfect artistic color for people to start expressing their creativity.”
