A few different design aesthetics that Senior Designer Joe Clark is seeing right now for your upgrade happen to fall under a simplistic design. Joe’s working with clients to look to simplify yet make a big impact.

Specifically with flooring, Joe’s seeing a trend towards moving to lighter wood-look floors whether it’s an engineered wood or a wood-look tile. And then if his clients want to interject more wood tones back in, they can use more medium wood tones with the cabinetry instead of going very dark. Joe’s noticing a lot of his clients are loving that option.

Again, with the simple design aesthetic, coordinating with your kitchen in the sense of when you’re doing your countertops, you’re either running your countertop up the back as the backsplash or doing a large format tile, which is another great option that simplifies the design.

Traditionally for your upgrade, you see a lot of different designs where you’ve done a subway tile or a variant off that or a mosaic for the backsplash, but that get very busy. Joe’s noticing that design aesthetic shift toward a more simplified design where you’re maybe putting more of the focus on your view, the exterior, or the doors and not having so much of the focus being on the ornateness of your space but allowing the entire space to speak to you in the design aesthetic and be a comforting and inspiring place to be in.
